I recently had the opportunity to sit down with a long-time friend, Janice Person, for an episode of the Grounded By The Farm Podcast. When you have a few moments, listen to the episode as we talk about cattle care and feeding.

Everyone loves a good story and listening to the stories of others has often been a favorite pastime for many. There’s nothing better than sitting around the kitchen table and diving deep into conversations with friends and family.

In the past, we consumed others’ stories via radio broadcasts. While radio is still a major platform, online platforms are increasingly offering new ways to consume audio to discover unlimited new stories on social media, digital streaming, video, and, one of my favorite platforms, podcasts.

Janice Person is no stranger to agriculture

Janice Person is one of the first people I connected with on Twitter and later met IRL (in real life) and she’s continued to be a mentor for me. Since that time, we’ve had opportunities to see each other at several industry meetings and collaborate on several projects.

Janice was featured in my earliest blog posts sharing why she is Agriculture Proud AND she took over my blog in 2013 to author several guests posts as I was taking a hiatus to focus on graduate school research.

Fun fact: Janice was the guest for the first-ever podcast episode I published way back in 2016! You can listen to that episode where we explored how to have better conversations around controversial topics like GMOs.

Grounded by the Farm

In recent years, Janice has embraced her talents for storytelling to launch her own business and help the agriculture community share their own stories. Along with many other projects, Janice is capturing diverse stories from across the agriculture communities and sharing them via the Grounded By The Farm Podcast. I’ve listened to every single episode and was thrilled when she asked me to be a guest on a recent trip through Virginia.

We discussed several topics surrounding cattle care and feeding, mostly from my experiences working in the industry. Having had the opportunity to work on farms and ranches across the country, it’s been a unique journey to see how things compare and contrast when raising cattle in different environments.

It was great to host Janice in our corner of southwest Virginia and show her a few local landmarks along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
